About
From a young age, Austin felt the call to acting, but options and encouragement were limited in Alabama at the time. Instead, he sought out other creative outlets such as, sculpting and painting, but ultimately gave his early life to martial arts.
From age four to twenty-two Austin studied in Tang Soo Do, Shorin-ryu Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA and Chinese kung fu. He trained hundreds of students and won state, national and world championships.
However, a life altering experience occurred in 2011, when a freak skiing accident in Switzerland left Austin immobilized. After peroneal nerve surgery and two years of rehab, Austin was fortunately, able to walk without the aid of an orthotic. But during those years, he grappled with understanding and accepting a new path. Dreams of acting had long been replaced with notions of reality.
Austin on the summit of Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (2010)
At the time, Austin was in his junior year at The University of Alabama. With nothing but time and creative dissatisfaction, during the two years of rehab, Austin started practicing an art that’s interest spawned several years prior while competing in Las Vegas… magic.
Upon graduating with a degree in finance, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia where he began performing as a “Corporate Illusionist,” specializing in stage and close-up performances for companies such as, Billy Reid, Vonage and Carter’s | OshKosh, and taught magic to young people at Springmont Montessori school.
By combining knowledge of martial arts and magic, Austin created shows that included, walking on glass, razor blade swallowing and strait jacket escapes. Still this was not enough, and Austin felt the call again. Only now, the film industry was upon Atlanta, and access was readily available.
After enrolling in his first class at the Alliance Theatre, Austin’s life was never the same. With the encouragement of his teachers, he began acting in local short films and web series, while continuing to study at the Alliance Theatre, Dad’s Garage, Drama Inc. and more. His early work includes: Oxygen’s Snapped: Killer Couples, Paul Rudnick’s I Hate Hamlet, and various other independent projects.
In 2017 Austin hung up his strait jacket for good and dedicated his time to film. In addition to being a film actor, Austin is also a filmmaker. His production company, OoM Productions specializes in independent film production and film consulting. Austin is also a partner at Blue Goose Productions, which is a full-service commercial and video production company.
Since 2017, Austin has had lead and supporting roles in a number of feature films. He can be seen in the Netflix Original Film: Nappily Ever After, the mockumentary Indiecency (Winner of Best Comedy Feature at the Los Angeles Film Awards), the comedy series Intolerant (1st Place in the 23rd Annual Fade In Awards), the international feature Playdurizm (Winner of Best Feature Film at the 19th Annual Lausanne Underground Film Festival, Best Narrative Feature at the 18th Annual Calgary Underground Film Festival, and Best Foreign Feature at the 18th Annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival), and the dramatic feature film The Farm (available on Amazon).
